McDonald's aims to fill 50,000 jobs in a day
Washington – McDonald's Corp. is challenging lingering economic woes in
the United States with a National Hiring Day, aiming to fill 50,000
positions nationwide by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.
All types of jobs at the fast-food chain need to be filled, from the most
basic work cleaning the restaurants and making french fries to higher-level
positions such as office managers and payroll managers.
The basic McDonald's employee earns about $8 per hour, but the precise wages
vary among the different franchises and also among the geographical areas
where the stores are located.
The great majority - 90 percent - of the iconic and ubiquitous fast-food
establishments are franchises.
Recently, McDonald's was selected by Working Mother magazine as one of the
best companies in the country for hourly employees, a choice that
acknowledged the job flexibility offered to workers as well as their pay and
the benefits they receive from the firm.
If it meets its 50,000-person hiring target, the chain could increase the
number of its workers around the country from 650,000 to 700,000. |
