government. The FOMC can do whatever they see fit. It's not like China's
central bank.
I am not saying QE2 is good or bad thing, but whoever wins the mid-term got
nothing to do with QE2.

not mean take que from congress for operations. He tells the congress what
has happened and what Fed is going to do. Of course, the white house and
congress tries to sway the central banker this or that way, but FOMC has the
ultimate independence. It's written in the law. Anyone who wants Fed to do
something he wants it to do, he has to change that law first. That's almost
impossible to do. Even in this crisis, the Fed's power got expanded, not
shrunk. Let me just give you an example of Fed not bending to external
pressure. Alan Greenspan did not listen to senior George Bush's request to
loosen up credit in early 90s and costed his presidency.
Plus, Fed is not just one person. It's a committee. They vote each time for
certain action. Most of the directors are economists and bankers, they don't
have to listen to politicians. So even if Ben wants curry favor to get re-
appointed for next term, which is far in the future, other directors don't
have to give a damn if it's not the right thing to do. | g****u 发帖数: 695 | 5 Fed is independent of congress is not true any more. If Fed ever
does its job independently, there wouldn't be QE2 at the first
place.
Saying that, the winning of Republicans won't change QE2 at
all, because it's their desire as well.
