My major is statistics. Now, I have two offers in hand, one is in a big
healthcare insurance company, senior analyst; the other is in one marketing
consultant company, Consultant in marketing analysis.
All companies are big, benefits are similar. But consultant's salary is
higher, about $5000-$10000. (still in negotiation)
Which field is better for long term? any experience or suggestion? i know
there are a lot of experienced statistician, please help.

I prefer marketing, just concern its stability and how buy will it be? the
interviewer told me at least 50 hours per week. It is kind of scared me.
I have friend in healthcare, it seems the job is quite easy and better
balance between life and work.

it is surprise that HR didnot contact with me. Hiring manager gave me the
phone interview and assigned the on-site in next week.
On-site is not very hard. most is focus on SAS code and linear model, factor
analysis, logistic model.
By the way, i have green card, i think that it is maybe the reason.

graduates. Most insurance companies have rigid policies in regard to
salary and grades. It is hard to get even 5% annual merit increase. These
jobs are pretty stable, but there is not much potential for salary growth.
Things are different in small companies. they could give you a raise for
any reasons and at any time. So, after staying in small companies for
several years, when your feel your salary is on the top of the limit, jump

bigger places you become specialist. I feel as a junior statistician,
becoming a specialists at bigger place absolutely adds more value.
I feel it's easy to jump from a large place to a small place, but jumping
from a small company to a big one is much harder.

Insurance absolutely have better work-life balance.

after 2 or 3 yrs, should jump out, because, salary increase slowly, and they
prefer actuaries ppl.

厂都是不可能的。 我所在的药厂的annual merit increase平均才2－3%。 一般来说不
要指望merit increase来涨工资，想涨工资就要跳槽。
