SUMMARY
Function & Scope: Responsible for conducting statistical support
to Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity Investigators.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Works with a data manager to compile, analyze, and report
statistical data.
2. Assists in the development, maintenance, and utilization of a
database management system.
3. Assists in the design of research, and conducts and writes up
power calculations.
4. Assists faculty in the selection of statistical methods for
measurement and analysis.
5. Applies advanced statistical methods (including psychometric,
complex survey, and multivariate procedures).
6. Assesses relevant literature as well as existing data, and
assists in the preparation of reports, charts and tables of data for
committees, scientific meetings, and publications.
7. Drafts the data analysis and results sections of manuscripts for
submission for publication.
8. Presents findings at relevant committee meetings both inside and
outside of the institution as required.
9. Occasionally plans and conducts analyses and writes manuscripts
on methodological studies.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS:
Other duties as required.
SUPERVISION:
Received: Faculty members (Baranowski, Cullen, Dave, Hughes,
Mendoza, O’Connor, Thompson).
Given: May provide guidance to data managers, programmers, and clerical
staff.
EDUCATION:
Required: MS in Biostatistics, Statistics, Psychometrics or
closely related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum three years experience with Windows and/or UNIX
and/or PC operating systems and databases, document processing,
experience in programming, statistical analysis and statistical software
such as SAS, STATA, and SPSS, preferably in an academic and/or
biomedical environment. Proficiency in SPSS, SAS, or similar packages is
required.
Preferred: Knowledge of behavioral science terminology,
particularly behavioral nutrition and physical activity.
ACCURACY:
Required: Precision in all aspects of data management, statistical
analysis and results presentation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment.
Salary is competitive with industry and commensurate with experience.
