Description
Monsanto is currently seeking a highly motivated Statistical Geneticist
to join the Corn Breeding team to support the development of new corn
breeding lines. The successful candidate will be involved in: the mining
of data from corn breeding organization (pedigree, phenotypes, markers,
and sequences), the development of new methodologies for validation and
deployment of QTL(s), and the evaluation of native traits in
agricultural field trials.
The role requires the Statistical Geneticist to collaborate with
scientists in multiple divisions in Monsanto's Technology organization.
Responsibilities:
• Perform trait-marker associations to identify QTLs for native
traits.
• Perform computer simulations to evaluate introgression
strategies.
• Promote new breeding and multi-season nursery strategies for
rapid introgression/stacking of multiple native traits into elite lines.
• Optimize experimental design and associated statistical analyses
for testing QTL(s) efficacy and equivalency to ensure high-quality
products.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Experience
• PhD in Statistical Genetics or Plant Breeding with 3+ years of
experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility
• Previous experience with QTL linkage analysis, gene mapping, or
data mining and visualization of large databases.
• Comprehensive understanding of Marker Assisted Selection theory
and methods
• Strong computational skills with statistical software (SAS,
ASREML, R …) or customized computing languages (PERL, C/C++, Fortran,
Java, …).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the
ability to succinctly describe approaches and to summarize complex
concepts in language understandable by scientists from a variety of
disciplines
• Ability to work in a matrix environment and interact with people
in different organizations, locations, countries.
