I tried to negotiate a bit and it was improved to $51K symbolically. As I am
aware and the hiring manage
admits, similar position in a university from a less costly place pays even
higher ($55K). But it seems that the
human resource is not willing to adjust for living cost. Strange, isn't it?
My question is: is there any good way that I can improve further on this
offer? Any good suggestions are

Even if you can get in with a higher salary, you will be adjusted to the
median of the position after a couple of years. |

1) You have a competing offer, regardless how much it pays.
2) You are prepared to decline their offer (and accept a competing offer) if
it is not raised significantly.
Many people try to negotiate without the above mentioned. Usually, the best
case is to get a symbolic raise.

But I don't know how universities handle such things. |
