本人现在受雇一家小公司。part time. 本来以direct employee的形式谈好了hourly
rate。
13571 | 2 If you are hired as an employee, the employer will withhold the following
payroll taxes from your paychecks:
1. Social Security Tax - 6.2%; annual limit $106,800
2. Medicare Tax - 1.45%; no annual limit
3. Federal Income Tax - that rate is based on your income tax bracket
The employer also pay the company's portion of Social Security and Medicare
taxes to the government too. So you accumulate all those benefits and you
will see your status on the Social Security Statement each year. After you
retire, you will enjoy those benefits.
When you're hired as an independent contractor, the company who hired you
will not have those payroll tax liabilities, and they will not withhold
anything from the check that they pay you. So the net amount you will get
would be more. But you don't get to get all the employment benefits. Not
to mention other employment benefits that the company provides to regular
employees, such as 401k, HSA, FSA, paid vacation, etc.

(I am talking about 50% higher or even more), because independent contractor
doesn't get employee benefits (e.g. health/life insurance, 401k, etc.)
which actually costs a lot, especially the health insurance.
Besides, as an independent contractor, you'll have to pay self-employment
tax, which basically doubles your social security tax.
