2. Keeping overhead to a minimum, avoiding the "have to spend to make money"
mentality. What you need to do is be out there and build brand recognition
and be able to clearly and concisely explain to people the benefits and
values of your product or service.
3. Ability to be a jack of all trades, you are going to have to be a
salesman, a manager, a worker, a marketer, a web developer, a CFO...knowing
how to do all reasonably well while staying focused on both your short and
long term goals.
4. The fortress of solitude, it can get lonely out there and you need to be
strong willed and believe in yourself all the time. The road to success is
1000 little steps, not any one day or event...at least not in the beginning
when you need to build your foundation.
5. Networking, Networking and more Networking. The best way to stay busy is
to be active in Networking. Whether it''s a networking group (there are many
), chambers of commerce, networking opportunities (yes, different than
groups), LinkedIn, Facebook, etc etc. you need to be out there everyday
expanding your network of people, centers of influence and overall building
the number of people who are aware of you and your services/product. It's a
numbers game and without the law of numbers on your side you will more than
