Jobster has had $18m+ in investment, has all the you beaut web 2.0 features
you could ever want and has had endless press coverage in the US (although
not all of it good). Yet here they are 2 years down the track and they have
barely made a dent in the job board space. And if this article is to be

Actually, according to WSJ, facebook does not make any money yet.

| b***8 发帖数: 621 | 5 It's very interesting that some ppl here are very anti-social networking
sites. To me, anything related to a society, is considered social networking
site.
C'mon, in now days, which site is not social-related? Just look at mitbbs?
Although it's a forum, it's still a social networking site. What about eBay?
isn't it kind of commerce based social networking site as well?
Look at LZ's jiansnet, it's Answer(Q&A) site, you need members to ask and
answer questions, so I can consider itself as a social | g********g 发帖数: 2172 | 6 This article did not reveal the whole story. I keep track of indeed.com,
simplyhired.com, and jobster.com since their beginning. They all started
around 3 years ago. Indeed.com used java in NY, simplyhired.com used php in
CA, do not know jobster.com. The jobster founder has very good political
background. They raised the most money. At the beginning they all tried to
do pure vertical job search engine. The result are indeed came out the best
search engine and nice interface. Simplyhired.com's en

jobster.com is using java too, for your information. | w********c 发帖数: 2632 | 8 from a marketer perspective, targeted ads will perform better than random
ones. no question with that.
from a user perspective, if he comes to the website with a clear information
need, ads are likely to be distracting. on the other hand, if he just tries
to kill some time and get himself entertained, and ads happen to be of
high quality, i would argue that there is still monetization potential there.

| w*****e 发帖数: 748 | 10 I believe social networking sites have a great future. A social networking
site does not mean blog, video, picture.... MySpace as an exampler of social
network sites should not be interpreted as having all similar
functionalities. That's misleading. | g********g 发帖数: 2172 | 11 It is not about the technology, it is about who execute it. As "briteguy"
said, jobster used java as well. But they failed.

| b******y 发帖数: 9224 | 12 In fact, they called me up and wanted me to join them, as I use Java. But I
did some background check on them, and found out that they were burning
money like crazy, plus, their CEO just quit, so, I thought not a good idea
to go to a sinking ship ;-) |
