the tournament organizer, please allow me to use this platform to say
something. (Pardon me to use English as I do not know how to type Chinese
and it will take me some efforts to write in Chinese.)
First of all, as indicated in our web http://macrogroup.org/, the mission of this tournament, like all other tournaments and activities that we have been doing for years, is to gather all individuals who share common interests in soccer and to have some fun together and make friends. At this point, I thus feel very sorry to those who were unhappy for what they had experienced especially to those who got injured.
As an organizer, my role was to make sure it was a fair tournament to
everyone including the field conditions, referees, and players rules etc. (
As a matter of fact, MACRO players did blame me why I did not just assign
them to play on the turf field directly because they thought MACRO was the
hosting team and should have the privilege. I told them I would do so if
these 2 fields were the same conditions. Since the quality of the grass and
turf field was not the same, I thus felt it was inappropriate and decided
to use lottery drawing to determine this field assignment instead.)
The grass field was a little bit smaller, but it was in a very good
condition when we started the tournament. It was fully covered with green
grass and had no bare areas basically. Also, it should be noted that all
regular soccer league matches are actually being played on grass and it has
become a standard for centuries. Despite the heavy rain that morning,
however, we continued to play because of the time constraints. So we
actually damaged the field and made it very muddy. (Oh, men, I hope I will
not receive a field damage complaint from the Park District in the near
future. FYI, we just moved to this site 3 years ago. In previous years, we
played on 2 regular grass fields and the Park District official came out to
stop our games during the heavy rain because of the grass concerns. )
Missing calls or making bad calls by the referee is always an issue. This
is happened even in those professional matches which are handled by 3
referees. Unfortunately, our referees did not help in minimizing this issue.
While they did not seem to blow the whistle tight enough, they did not run
with the ball closely to monitor the ever-changing situation either. So
their chances of missing calls or making bad calls were pretty high. These
2 referees are licensed and the older one is even a coach of a soccer
training camp so he likes to brag and talk loud. They have been our
tournament referees for about 5 years. So they were no strangers to MACRO.
However, I do not believe this sort of acquaintance would make them bias
towards MACRO because they have not done so since year 1. As a matter of
fact, MACRO once had this sort of situation 3 years ago, and many MACRO
players were very mad at the old referee because he did not give MACRO a
penalty kick that the players expected. Anyway, it did appear that they
have not handled many fouls properly this year. With this significant
amount of complaints against them this time, I think it is the time to let
them go and I would try to hire other referees next year. In addition, if
budget allows, I will consider using 2 referees at least for the playoff
matches as well.
Sliding kick is a very important skill for the defense. It dismisses the
opponent’s offense effectively if the kick is made on the ball precisely.
However, if this kick is missed, it will not look good and may have negative
consequences. It may hurt the players badly and may trigger a fight.
I always discourage strongly any provocative acts or fighting in my
tournament. As shown below in the by-law document that I sent to all team
representatives before the tournament, I am serious about this and try my
best to execute this. Since the consequence of missing the sliding kick may
be damaging, I thus would seriously consider to disallow any sliding kicks
in my tournament from now on just like other tournaments have been observing
this for years.
Lastly, I want to say that soccer ball is the common language for everyone
when we are in the field. We should not bother what kind of race the player
is as long as we could share the fun. Yet because of the physical size
advantage of some races, I thus would like to set a limitation so that the
Chinese or Asian community could have more challenges and fun.

Important Notice as shown in the by-law doc:
In order to avoid any unpleasant confrontation between players,coaches and
captains are strongly urged to remove their own hostile player from the
field when his behavior is observed becoming provocative. This will help
cooling off the problematic player and avoid any further unnecessary and
uncontrollable violence. | p**p
