Soloman Islands have in common? Very little, if anything, and certainly not
footballing knowledge, given that Trapattoni is one of the best football
coaches in history, while with all respect Hirouaki Matsuyama, Adel Amrouche
and Jacob Moli are great unknowns. But Trapattoni together with this band
of international coaches form the small number of selectors that didn’t
include Messi in their votes for the Ballon d’Or. The Argentinian didn’t
even make the podium in the Republic of Ireland coach’s selections for best
player of 2011.
NOT EVEN CRISTIANO — There was no space for Cristian Ronaldo in Trapattoni
’s first three either, giving the impression that he definitely wanted to
focus on alternatives. In the end he chose in the following order: 1. Xavi,
2. Rooney, 3. Iniesta. Only nine out of a total of 156 selectors dared to
omit the Argentinian. Together with those already mentioned they included
the coaches of Nigeria and Venuzuela, but also John Toshack and Jose Camacho
of Macedonia and China respectively.. |
