需要换,得整个brake连带rotors, pads换. 问题是我不到不到两年前才把整个brake换
过了,到现在开了大约两万miles多些,而且刹车片(pad)没换过,dealer说刹车片的厚度
还可以,不过rotor太薄. 正常情况,rotor寿命是6万miles到8万miles,我这么跟dealer
说,dealer也表示一般是这么多miles,所以这个事情我就觉得很奇怪.另外是我不久前给
车换Utah的车牌,去一个店做了safety inspection,那个店也没指出这个刹车的问题,难道
是他们根本没怎么看?
那么,是去年的那个店,不是dealer,骗我了? 还是这刹车片这两万多miles自然磨损了?
或者是dealer骗我?

Rotor too thin - won't be from hard braking down the mtn, but from warping
and previous machining/thinning. If you are sure it had never been done
before and it's not warping, so thinning or new rotor is not needed.
If the rotor is warped, you should feel going downhill while applying hard
brakes the vehicle (or front end) would shake with noise like “-dong-dong-
dong—“ and steering wheel shaking. Again, it’s not just the recent 20k
miles but the whole history of the vehicle.
Safety inspect - in Utah it's not required by law to take off the wheels to
look at the brakes. All they need is to apply brakes on rollers and record
the braking force on each wheel. So they could careless about your rotor
and pads.
Confused enough?
If you want, you can ask to see the measurements of the rotors and the
minimum spec.

burning brakes(smoke) down the canyon.
To correct the warpage, shops need to turn/thin the disc to make it flat
again.
Or in other word, only machining will thin the disc below the spec.

我问了measurements,他们告诉我说是
前面的rotors厚度只有27mm,原厚度是30mm,最低允许到28.4mm
后面的rotors厚度是9.06mm,原厚度是12mm,最低允许到10.4mm

get new discs then. The discs will not break because of your hard brake.
It will warp again then there is no room to thin and get back to flat.
If the measurements are ture then the discs were turned/thinned before.

rotor单纯变薄没有症状，但是强度变低，会容易变形，甚至crack。变形之后刹车就会
抖了。
rotor8万迈的寿命差不多，不太可能两万迈就磨损过头了，如果现在这家没骗你，就是
上一家只给你换了pads, 没有换rotor。如果还有清单，帖出来看看就知道了。
不是所有的pads都比rotor软，有些金属的pads是很硬的，rotor磨光了他们也没有什么
变化
可以自己看看，如果rotor磨的很薄，边缘会有一圈突出来的

这个rotors虽然薄得超过最低要求太多，但是前面也还有27mm，dealer说没有任何弯曲
，翘变形，就是过薄了。刹车我也没觉得抖，可能我很不敏感。
变形，抖了我觉得就太严重了。

So the single is one solid disc (hole or no hole) and vented is "double" (
two singles) with ribs in between.
Conclusions: singles are thin to start with and vented are thick to start

Go to wiki and search "disc brake" BLOW UP the first pic and see what a
solid "SINGLE" SOLID DISC is like and tell me how thick it is.
Just this morning coming to work I saw at least two solid single discs about
6-8mm thick.
Family cars may use front vented(thick) and rear drum. A single(thin) solid
disc for rear is a step up.
