Federal employees whose compensation averages more than $126,000 and the
nation's greatest concentration of lawyers helped Washington edge out
San Jose as the wealthiest U.S. metropolitan area, government data show.
The U.S. capital has swapped top spots with Silicon Valley, according to
recent Census Bureau figures, with the typical household in the
Washington metro area earning $84,523 last year. The national median
income for 2010 was $50,046.
The figures demonstrate how the nation's political and financial classes
are prospering as the economy struggles with unemployment above 9
percent and thousands of Americans protest in the streets against income
disparity, said Kevin Zeese, director of Prosperity Agenda, a Baltimore-
based advocacy group trying to narrow the divide between rich and poor.
"There's a gap that's isolating Washington from the reality of the rest
of the country," Zeese said. "They just get more and more out of touch."
Total compensation for federal workers, including health care and other
benefits, last year averaged $126,369, compared with $122,697 in 2009,
according to Bloomberg News calculations of Commerce Department data.
There were 170,467 federal employees in the District of Columbia as of
June. The Washington area includes the District of Columbia, parts of
Northern Virginia, eastern Maryland and eastern West Virginia. |

supermarket here either.
with the size of Asian population here, those are already sufficient.
we do not have that vast number of Asian popullation here. Plus all folks
are spreaded around 4 counties in VA and MD, 2 each. So we do not need such
a dense Asian presence as in Flushing or Manhattan, which is very nice.
That is, if we need the Asian flavor we will have places to go. Otherwise,
we remain in the quiet calm countryside to enjoy undisturbed family life.

发帖数: 2223 | 55 啥人要把LA和DC比。我又不住在DC. 再说了，我刚开始仅仅是说南加的夏天天气受不了，我又没有在LA downtown或者santa monica beach住过。 我又不拿这个比。
我只是说2006年我出差在内陆，Anaheim, Fullerton, Rowland Heights, Garden
Grove 那带。 也就是7，8月光景。 都热的吃不消了。 回到家里马上就差10几度。
再说，就算你把DC钳出来，DC的气候和Fairfax的气候也差不多啦。不会明显有从LA海边走十几个mile到San Gabriel, Alhambra那样差别那么大。
我不否认西岸四季如春，气候的确不错。 我仅仅是说夏天，南加的某些地方，热的实在吃不消。 阿拉东岸夏天在怎么湿热，温度总没有那么高。100多度已经打到南天门了，南南板板有那么一两天。

humidity will make you sweat and feel muffled for sure, but it will also
keep your live, unless you want to drink from the ocean.

I drive 30-40 miles to snowboard every weekend during winter.
