they need to figure where to put investors' money. usually their research
reports are trustworthy
investment banking is on sell side. they help other companies issue equity,
debt, m&a... they "sell" stuff and take huge commission from it. their
research reports are crap because they always tell you it's good to buy. buy
what? their crap: story stocks, junk bond...

Not too sure about sell side, I would guess private wealth management
is one of them. AmericanLife should be able to tell you more.

debt; asset management lure investors to buy; some other dept help finance the
deal; equity research boost the rating; brokers help clients buy/sell... | b******r

limited to some well-known broker dealers like Canter Fitzgerald. and since
US treasury bond is top rating, such sell side has much better than investment
banking. asset management companies buy treasury bonds, which forms its buy
side.
financial derivative group should be on buy side because there's no
underwriting for derivatives
side.
