My labtop (Sony vaio with Win2000) was possibally affected by a virus
lastnight and I lost almost all the control of my labtop--all the icons in
my desktop disappeared, but the wallpaper was still there. IE is gone. FTP is
gone. Many software are inactivated. When I click the "Start" button, I can't
find the components of "Run..." and "Shutdown..".
The possible event happened last night when everything turned bad may like

我用了差不多多一天的时间解决了一些问题
下面是解决办法：
进入win2000的时候按f8
进入带有输入命令行的安全模式
在类似dos的窗口内输入：
regedit
查找所有的
norun
noclose
nologoff
nodrivers
nodesktop
disable registry tools
之类
删除他们
然后查找所有的con/con
改为 "%1" %*
然后退出regedit
然后在类似dos的窗口输入
assoc .exe=exefile
assoc .com=comfile
然后重起
基本就好了

I got the same damn virus and I don't know what to do. My system is NT 4. Can
the method you posted be applied to NT 4 as well? BOW!
