If you answered yes, the Marketing Science team is hiring Applied
Researchers to understand what/when/how to market to our customers. Bring

users. The Marketing Science team at eBay is responsible for building
algorithmic solutions to improve our email and internet marketing activities
. We are developing state-of-the-art personalization technologies and
optimization strategies that have a direct impact on eBay's users as well as
the company's bottom line. You will be expected to research state of the
art machine learning, natural language processing, text mining, and other
techniques, and apply them to eBay's marketing platforms. You will roll your
solutions to production, analyze results offline and online, and measure
site impact.
We are passionate about building amazing platforms that support the growth
of eBay's market share, and we are looking for top-notch software engineers
who want to build scalable systems that are business critical.
Job Requirements
• You will be directly responsible for improving the quality and
efficiency of eBay's marketing activities in paid search and/or email
communication.
• Design and implement end to end solutions using Machine Learning
and other advanced computer science technologies, and own live deployments
to improve both efficiency and user experience for marketing activities.
• Conduct experiments and evaluate the performance of the models,
investigate false positive/false negatives and implement continuous
improvements to the marketing ecosystem.
• Collaborate with other researchers, engineers, and product teams
to develop strategic and tactical enhancements to our ads, e-mail, and
affiliate network.
• Communicate your methodology and results to a community of
researchers, developers, analysts, and product managers working on a number
of related technologies.
• Use your passion for advertising and technology to find
opportunities to evolve/grow the business and export technology back into
ebay.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other team members.
Basic Qualifications
• PhD in computer science, engineering or related field with 5
years of relevant experience.
• MS in computer science, engineering or related field with 7 years
of relevant experience.
• Expertise required in object-oriented design methodology and
application development in Java.
• Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data
structures, and algorithms.
• Strong programming skills (One or more of Java, C/C++, Python) in
industrial setting
• Expertise in specialized areas such as Text Mining, Graph
Processing, Machine Learning, Search, Recommendation Systems.
• Good communication skills, ability to work with large cross
functional teams of technical and non-technical members

solutions to predict undesired behavior before it happens. The team is
responsible for fraud, risk, policy enforcement, identity, counterfeiting in
addition to other areas that can negatively affect trust for our community
or result in unsatisfactory experiences for our users. It is our
responsibility to make eBay the safest and most trustworthy marketplace on
the planet. You will be expected to research state of the art machine
learning, natural language processing, text mining, and other techniques,
and apply them to eBay's trust platforms. You will roll your solutions to
production, analyze results offline and online, and measure site impact.
Job Requirements
• You will be directly responsible for improving the quality of
eBay's trust related algorithms. You will work on algorithms that identify
and predict undesired activities such as account takeovers, shill bidding,
fraudulent listings, abusive buying behaviors, and bad buyer experiences.
• Aggregate data and information from large numbers of data sources
to conduct anomaly detection and classification for assessment of fraud and
risk patterns.
• Design and implement end to end solutions using Machine Learning
and other advanced computer science technologies, and own live deployments
to predict Fraud & Risk elements.
• Evaluate the performance of the models, investigate false
positive/false negatives and implement continuous improvements to the
prediction ecosystem.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, QE, and operations teams
to architect and develop strategic and tactical solutions that meet market
needs with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, realistic
implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles.
• Implement proof-of-concept prototypes for data collection,
analysis, and presentation.
