We are honored to invite our special guest speaker J.D. Hokoyama, the founder of LEAP (Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics) to talk about leadership skills for entrepreneurs. The seminar will be in the format of Q&A.
Questions will include but not limit to;
1. Should I choose a partner or just hire?
2. What can I do to prevent things from becoming ugly?
3. If someone has a strong interest in partnering with me, should I partner with him/her? What can I think about before making a decision? What questions can I ask?
4. How to motivate others or even myself to go forward when no money shows and all is hard work?
5. Is it necessary to get family's support in building startups?
6. Everyone in the team is enthusiastic about their ideas, yet different ideas. How can I make everyone to go the same direction?
7. How to handle difficult customers?
8. How do you convince people?
9. How doe you keep motivating people? Not once, but keep motivating.
10. How to set the salary?
11. Will benefit change a person's loyalty to the company?
12. Is there any study showing the pros/cons of flexible working hour vs fixed hours (9-5)?
13. Startup usually involves some junior people. Is there any research telling what are most urgent skills junior guys would like to catch?
14. What is the unique challenge of being an Asian American startup company here?
Bio of J.D. Hokoyama
J.D. Hokoyama currently serves as President and CEO and was a founding board member of Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP). LEAP is a national, non-profit, non-partisan, educational, community-based organization founded in Los Angele

A former Peace Corps volunteer serving in Ethiopia, Mr. Hokoyama taught English at Daniel Murphy High School and at Loyola High School, where he also chaired the English department. He was the principal of Maryknoll School K-8, after which he returne
teaching English at Immaculate Heart High School. Mr. Hokoyama left teaching to become the associate national director of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). After two years, he assumed the position of acting national director. Subsequent t
ving the JACL, Mr. Hokoyama served as the first director of the Office of Asian Pacific American Student Services (APASS) at the University of Southern California and then as executive vice president for fund development and public affairs at Keiro S
es. In January 1988, he assumed his current position with LEAP. He
holds a BA in English, a secondary teaching credential and an M.Ed. in Educational Administration from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
