The English Version
We parked at the switch-back trail head in Hurricane Ridge. Some ranger
mentioned a rogue goat but it slipped my mind. Just before we got started,
we saw a notice posted by the Park Service. Something I had never seen
before: "There is a very aggressive mountain goat frequenting this trail. It
approaches people closely and chases them. Be prepared to yell and throw
rocks at it to drive it off..."
Being a "Shoot only with camera, leave with only memory" kind of person, I
had never even LOOKED at wildlife the wrong way. Now I got a chance to THROW
rocks at a Big Bad Goat, sanctioned by the park service. So I thought to
myself, "Sweet. This is going to be fun!"
We picked up walking sticks as weapons and braved the trail. Nothing at the
first switchback, nothing when we crossed the creek, nothing at the second
switchback, wait a moment, right in the middle of trail, there was the goat!
We forgot all about throwing rocks. We ran, ran and ran.

阮者赶出来叫道：“客官，那里去？”猪先知立住了，问道：“叫我做甚么？我 又不
少你门票钱，唤我怎地？”阮者叫道：“我是好意；你且回来我家看抄白官司榜文。”
猪先知道：“甚么榜文？”阮者道：“如今前面暴风岭上有只吊睛白毛大羊，时时出来
伤人，坏了三二十条大汉观景兴致。官司如今杖限猎户擒捉发落。岭子路口都 有榜文
；可教往来客人结夥成队，大声鼓噪。我 见你走都不问人，枉送了自家性命。”
猪先知听了，笑道：“我虽中土人氏，久居景郡，这条暴风岭上少也走过了一二十遭，
几 时见说有大羊，你休说这般鸟话来吓我！──便有大羊，我也不怕！须教他吃我这
双斗大的蹄子！”阮者道： “我是好意救你，你不信时，进来看官司榜文。”猪先知
道：“你鸟做声！便真个有 羊，老猪也不怕！老猪鹿麋也见得，熊罴也见得，昔年家
里也养得好大豺狼。却把鸟 大羊唬吓我？”阮者道：“你看么！我是一片好心，反做
恶意，倒落得你恁地！你 不信我时，请尊便自行！”一面说，一面摇着头，自进店里
去了。
这猪先知提了哨棒，大着步，自过暴风岭来。约行了半里路，来到岭子下，见 一大树
，贴着印信 榜文。猪先知也颇识几字，住了脚读时，上面写道： “近因暴风岭上新有
一只大羊伤人，但有过往客商可大声鼓噪，投掷石块杂物。各宜知悉。 布世七年。。
。月。。。日。” 那时方是未牌羊时，这轮红日高高当空。猪先知读了印信榜文，方
知端的有羊；欲待转身再回店里来，寻思道：“我回 去时须吃他耻笑不是好猪，难以
转去。”存想了一回，说道：“怕甚么鸟！且只顾 上去看怎地！”
猪先知正走，看看汗涌上来，便把外衣掀在脊梁上，将哨棒绾在肋下，一步步 上那岭
子来。此时正是六月间天气，日长夜短，不 容易得晚。猪先知自言自说道：“那得甚
么大羊！人自怕了，不敢上山。” 猪先知走了一直，焦热起来，一只手提哨棒，一只
手把胸膛前袒开， 踉踉跄跄，直奔过乱树林来；见一块光挞挞大青石，把那哨棒倚在
一边，却待要坐，只见发起一阵狂风。那一阵风过了，只听得乱树背后扑地一声响，跳
出 一只吊睛白毛大羊来。猪先知见了，叫声“阿呀”，从青石上翻将下来，便撇了哨
棒，闪在青石边。那大羊把两只蹄在地上略按一按，和身望上 一扑，从半空里撺将下
来。猪先知被那一惊，只一声喊，昨日的酒都作冷汗出了，哨 棒也不要，自没命价往
岭下走将去了。 | n**p
