yes, Nobel prize is not the necessary condition for evaluating a person.
But Hawking definitely can not be compared to Einstein.

so what are you trying to say? I didn't judge Hawking by the prices he is
winning. Cambridge trying to make him like a successor of Newton and Maxwell,
but ....
Blackhole thermal dynamics are great works, but it just doesn't rise to level
of what Einstein did.

theorem. It shows one fundamental problem of Einstein's
General relavity: it can not be completlly right because the
existence of the singularity.
His black hole radiation theory shows one way to combine
the quantum mechanics and the general relativity. Though far
from robust and complete, it is still a big step toward the
unification of all forces.
But anyway, I think that he is not at the same level as
Einstein, or even Yang Ch

I checked and found Bardeen had got twice,
1956 for research on semiconductor and discovery of the
transistor effect.
1972 for developing BCS-theory in superconductivity.
Einstein got the Nobel Laureate in phyiscs in 1921 "for his
services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery
of the law of th photoelectric effect."
Done.
