David Brin's The Uplift War Trilogy and The Uplift Storm
Trilogy ( 6 vol.)
Dan Simmons's The Hyperion Contos (4 vol.)
Gene Wolfe's New Sun Series (4 vol., but printed in 2
trade paperbacks now; ther are alao two sequel series,
named Long Sun and Short Sun)
Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy (3 vol. plus a
short story collection)

Dunno about the others, but I really dislike David Brin's uplift
war trilogy. Didn't read any of his work after those.
To me, even though he setup the whole story across the galaxy with
LOTS of diffferent alien races, it feels everything happened somewhere
on earth, and all the aliens behave just like human.
And his stories are very 公式化， characters are very 脸谱化。
just my 2 cents :)
