opposition to Senate Constitutional Amendment 5. Assemblymember Skinner
appreciates you taking the time to express your views.
As it is currently written, SCA 5 would propose a constitutional amendment
to be placed before the voters that deletes provisions implemented through
the enactment of Proposition 209 that prohibit the state from granting
preferential treatment to individuals or groups on the basis of race, sex,
color, ethnicity, or national origin, in the operation of public education.
This bill has not come before Assemblymember Skinner, though it may in the
future. Please be assured that I will inform Assemblymember Skinner of your

HI, Ms. Skinner,
I have never imagined that I would write email to a politician, even though
I met you several times: el Cerrito high school Martin Luther King day
celebration, Oakland diamond park.. But I strongly feel the need to talk to
you.
Recently there is a very controversial bill SCA 5 that came to my attention,
I want to know what is your opinions on this?
For me, I am very against this bill and hope that you can vote against this
bill. I think education should be merit based but not on quota based. If it
is quota based, then it is not fair to those students who are working hard
and excelling in everything at their best but would not get a chance
otherwise because of the quota.
I truly appreciate the sentence that Dr King said: One day, I hope that our
kids are not judged by the color of their skin but by their content of their
character.
I think it is very dangerous for state of California to do this quota based
education. Many kids would lose hope in their life, many other kids would
struggle to do academic stuff which they are not good at, whereas their
strength would be utilized elsewhere in other fields
If there is a quota based education, can we similarly apply this rule to
everything such as quota based employment? Can we ask a person who is not
that good at sports to go into sports for NBA or super bowl because there
could be a quota for that race.
SCA 5 is very backward. The 14th Amendment of the US Constitution clearly
states that no state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the
equal protection of its laws. The SCA 5 is racist and in violation of the US
Constitution. It is going to have a domino effect across the country if
State of California passes such a dangerous bill.
I hope that you can vote NO to SCA 5.
