1。 教训与经验
我们家被偷盗过两次。
第一次发生在一个刚新建的小区。 本以为小区成份简单， 大家都互相熟悉就没事。
所以， 虽然建了fence, 却没有及时装gate. 结果被盗， 损失惨重。 其实在发生前就
觉得小区近来常常停了一些不认识的车。 另外， 对面的房子被出租给一个老黑， 我
们怀疑是他们引来了盗贼， 因为他们经常开party， 引来了不少外人。
第二次发生在Bellevue山上的一个好区。 我们刚拿到keys, 还没有搬进去， 我还来不
及装security system。 损失了一捆toilet paper。 （感谢Bush, 这年头人穷得什么
都要） 盗贼因没拿到什么， 就毁坏了一个toilet paper holder。 我们怀疑是原房主
在通过craigslist出售东西时，把毛贼引到了家。
所以说， 不管你住在好区还是“坏”区， 偷盗的事都可能发生。 这些盗贼是有组织
的投机分子。 一般他们都会先踩点， 然后看机会而strike， 而且一般在strike后他
们不会再来。 另外， 不要以为你有一条狗就没事， 我的同事在家有一条狗， 照样被
盗， 因为有些盗贼知道如何哄狗。
2。 防盗措施
第一， 不管你住哪儿， 要时刻保持警惕， 要注意住宅区周围的情况。
第二， 贵重东西要藏好， 可以在银行租一个箱子， 把贵重东西藏在那儿。 盗贼一般
只偷小件， 所以desktop computer， TV, VCR, DVD Player一般放在那儿没问题， 但
laptop， tablet, camera要放起来， 或者带走。
第三， 如出远门， 家门口可以停一辆车， 家中用定时器定时开灯关灯。 出门事宜只
告诉真正信得过的人。You can replace the light switch that controls your front door with a timer such as Honeywell Econo Switch 7 Day Programmable Timer Switch for Lights (for which, you can buy it either from HomeDepot or Amazon).
第四， 在家装security system. 不要用ADT或其它要monthly charge的service. 因为
你会因此而花费很多 （三年大约$1500). 你完全可以自己买和安装security system。
与ADT相比， 效果几乎一样， 但没有monthly charge。 这里， 我推荐用x10的products.

一个security system一般包括：
a. A control console
b. One or more motion sensors
c. Several door/window sensors
d. One or more alarm devices which will be triggered by the security system and make very loud noise
e. One Wi/Fi IP camera, which you can monitor your home remotely.
这样一套东西大约要花二三百美金就可以搞定。
f. Optional: If you are a handy man, you can buy an alarm bell (like the bell used in the school) and install it outside your house, and then buy an x10 home automation switch and let the security system also trigger that switch. This way, it will make really really loud noise outside and people can hear it.
工作原理：
当one of the sensors is triggered, the security system will trigger the alarm device and make big noise, at the mean time, it will call your cell phone (you need to set that up, indeed, the system can let you set up multiple phone numbers, but don't put 911 there), once you get the phone call, you can either check your home remotely (through the IP camera) on your smart phone. If someone breaks into your home, you can call police and let them check, and believe or not, the police will do it (my system was triggered by my cat accidentally before while I was driving on the freeway, so I call the police and the police did a check, found nothing abnormal).
注意， 如果你在家养狗养猫， 你的motion sensor(s) may accidentally triggered by the pets because a motion sensor actually detect the temperature difference rather than a person's motion. | b*******r
