n******h 发帖数: 2482 | 24 It didn't go "straight" up, especially compared to other straight-up asset
classes such as housing before 2007 and tech stocks in 2000/now.
It's not gold/silver went up. It's the $ and all other paper money went down.
Do you own gold? How many of ordinary people you know own gold? Do they own
the phony paper contract such as GLD or the real cold hard physical? How
much do they own in terms of percentage of their net worth? 20%? 10%? 1%? or
0.1%?
Now let me tell you the answer. You don't own it. 99% of your neighbors don'
t own it. Calling that a bubble is beyond my comprehension.

Housing in 2007 was surely a bubble, but now? you still call it a bubble?
When someone who doesnt own or ever traded or invested in stock or real
property has started buying gold or silver, that's a real dangerous sign |
M*****R 发帖数: 650 | 26 I am very confused about Gold. It seems to be different from Silver.
Silver seems to me more like Crude. Limited supply, industrial usage,
and political manipulation from time to time.
Gold is interesting. Its value doesn't come from its intrinsic value,
but rather from its ex-reserve currency status.
Governments like to crush silver speculators from time to time, but
they didn't seem to do that to gold bugs. After all, they are the
ones sitting on a pile of gold.
It's hard to hold gold though. Derivatives are easily a bubble in making,
even though spot gold may be not.

Regarding the housing price. Since you admitted it was in bubble back in

San Francisco, and prime silicon valley locations, that have the same or
higher price level than in 2007?

Gold and silver are money, and that's written in US constitution. You wouldn

they are the de-facto money for thousands of years.

rebellion when the government is controlled by wall street crooks and has

Regarding the executive order, only one person was prosecuted and he
eventually didn't serve his sentence. You don't obey every order the
government gives. You only obey the orders that's good to the society and
fair to everyone. When the next executive order comes, you would be fool to
turn in your gold.

higher than 2007 lever... not to mention all other areas where pricing is
still 30 - 50% below the peak time. How do you call it a bubble?
While as for gold, it's more than doubled since 2007 and you don't think it'
s a bubble??? |
n******h 发帖数: 2482 | 33 First you'll have to define what bubble is. A price action is not
necessarily a bubble, especially against paper money, because it's all
relative. The price of oil, copper, iron, coal, timber and other commodities
all rose significantly over the last 4-5 years. Are they in a bubble? The
price of fruits, beef, pork, eggs and vegetables selling in my local grocery
stores all went up by non-trivial amount over the last 4-5 years. Are they
in a bubble? Your wage probably went up significantly over the last 4-5
years. Is that also in a bubble?
Bubble, in my opinion, is the significant price deviation from the
fundamentals, i.e., the intrinsic value. Talking about price action alone
without a sound understanding on the fundamentals is meaningless. In 1997-
1998. USD to CAD is at 2 to 1. In 2000 is at 1.5+ to 1. It's now trading at
0.98 to 1. What does that tell you? Is CAD in bubble (probably)? Or it's
just that USD is becoming toilet paper?
I'll leave the housing exercise to yourself. Again, talking about price
alone without getting into fundamentals is pointless.

C********e 发帖数: 202 | 34 I don't diagree with what you've observed. What's made this all happen is
not the "invisible hand", it's the US government. When US needed to buy
everything from overseas where everything was "globalized" to, they needed
strong $; now that they want to bring back jobs and sell everything to
overseas, they need the toilet $.
As toilet as it is, how many out there really think US$ will lose its
reserve currency status?
The inevitable by-product of the toilet $ is inflation. You can hedge
inflation with gold/silver or other commodities, or real property. The
question is, do you want hedge inflation with already inflated commodities,
or something else with fair value? |
