New quake hits northern Japan; tsunami warning issued

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Japan on Thursday, the Japan
Meteorological agency said. The epicenter was off the coast of Miyagi
Prefecture.
Public broadcaster NHK reported a tsunami warning for Miyagi, saying people
in the area should evacuate from the shore to a safe place.
NHK also reported a tsunami advisory for Iwate Prefecture, saying a tsunami
is expected to arrive in coastal regions there as well. |
