P***e 发帖数: 804 | 2 You don't have to go to Napa to buy a Napa wine. Any supermarket like
Costco should be easy to find tons of them. What varietal do you like?
White or red? Popular California reds include Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Syrah is kind of winding down. Whites
are such as Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvinon Blanc, Symphony, Muscato
etc. Most $10+ wines are aged in oak . Actually even most of the
economy wines also have oak components in them- they were aged on top of
what's called oak alternative such as oak staves, oak chips etc. The
purpose is to achieve the same aroma and mouth feel as aged in oak at a
cheaper price barrel since barrels are expensive, French barrel ~$900-
1000, American $400-500 each. If you like sweet floral wine, buy a
Muscato like Barefoot Muscato, only $5-6, very tropical, and most people
will like it, and it is low in alcohol.
I wouldn't recommend to buy a small oak barrel to store wine. Barrel
function is to extract barrel tannins and aroms, in the mean while it
has pores that allow air permeation into the wine to cause all kinds of
changes to wine, but it is a slow process and oxygen exposure should be
controlled. There is high chance of oxidize your wine if you do not know
what you are doing.

M*******c 发帖数: 4371 | 3 It is more reasonable for you to purchase several bottles of good wine.
Those are with oak cork.
And you need a wine cabinet where you are to store your wines slightly tilted
so that the wine can come into contact with the cork.

P***e 发帖数: 804 | 4 One more thing, the best way to store your wine is in the bottle-glass is
the best because it is inert. If it has wood cork, store it sideway or
upside down. This way the wood cork would stay wet, wouldn't crack, if
cork is try, air gets in and oxidizes your wine. The best enclosure is
actually screw cap, but consumers don't buy it because they want a wood
cork if it is a $10 wine.

It creates the effect like the oak barrel.

P***e 发帖数: 804 | 7 Not really, cork is stripped from the bark of cork oak tree which does not
have the aroma and mouth feel constituents that contribute to wine sensory
as oak barrels, it is just hydrophobic material like laminated wooden
floor. Oak barrel is made from oak wood with bark stripped off. Generally
oak tree is sliced and "aged" outdoor for 1.5-3 years to let bacterias do
their job to make the wood ready, then wood plank is surfaced-stripped
again then toasted to different levels by a cooper to achieve different
style. Toasting is to break down lignin in wood to bring up all the good
stuffs.
The only reason cork is still around is that most people are snobs. They
believe a good wine should come with cork. BTW, would you buy a $15 wine
in a 750ml Coca cola can? No way for most people, that's not up scale for
a wine container. Oh ya, we are all snobs in some way. :-)

Cabernet Sauvignon)

804 | 13 Economy wine does not need aging to taste smooth. Modern winemaking
technology such as MOX (microoxygenation, slow introduction of oxygen
to red wine after ferments) and utilization of oak alternatives make
wine drinkable right after purchase.
A good Napa wine can be either drunk right after purchase or stored
for many years. There are so many good Napa wines. You just need to
find your own favorites. Check out wine magazine/websites such as Wine
Spectator or Wine Enthusiast if you are note sure which wine you
like. Conventional wisdom says French makes the best wine and that is
not true. New world wines, wines made from US, Australia, New Zealand
and South Africa, are also pretty good. US does make super high end
wine. In 2008, 6 bottles of Screaming Eagle 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon
were sold for half a million dollars in an auction. Screaming Eagle is
a Napa winery. Also, like everything else not every wine made from
France is excellent, there are crap French wines too. Bourdieu wine
is so popular in China. But many imported French wines in China are
cheap ones but sold at very high prices. I won't go too far talking
about some of the French scandals over the news, hehe.
Brandy can be stored for many years too. It has higher alcohol
content, basically never go bad if kept unopened.
?这样我大
概
