10% of our gross income. That is nice.
What percentage of gross income spend on housing is reasonable? Mortgage
companies say up to 35%. That is a choice of life style.Our life style --
We will spend up to 20% gross on housing, so we can have money for other
things.
My wife bidded couples of houses in 92120 and 92115. We are out-bibbed.
It seems most people in SD are willing to pay high percentage of gross
income for housing.
I am wondering if our life style make us hard to fit in SD. We should work
smarter to make more money or move to a low cost city.

My thought is about high housing cost maybe is a 异化. And how to make money
less important to 衡量生活价值 by lower living cost.
My goal is to find a way to live comfortable and happily without spending
too much money.
We have exited the [rat race]. We are in about top 5% net-worth and
income category(according to data from American community survey). We do
not
want to reenter the [rat race] cycle because of high housing cost.
My wife told me that she does not want to work. She also bided couples 非学
区房, and Were out-bided.
That make me think that maybe SD is not a right place for us. We need to
prepare for next move.
I have been in SD for about 2 years, my wife have been in SD for 3 years.So
I throw out my thoughts here to get inputes to see if my thought is
reasonable or it is out of mind.

I just built a weapon -- automatically stock/option trading system.
I am testing/tunning my system to see if it can make money for me.
If it does, then I will not to worry about high housing cost in SD.

bought a lot of rental houses in
AZ at top and suffered about $500K ( my estimation) lose.
We value house low. We bought a lot of houses in AZ at bottom during 2008 ~
2011 and made about $1m(including rental income).
We moved to SD, and we think 4 beds/2,3 baths, 2000sf, $800K house in SD as
high price.
They moved to LA, and bought a 4 beds/2,3 baths, 2000sf for about $800K in 3
months after they moved to LA.
I know the problem we have.
We do not adjust to CA life style -- buying a house is purchasing a dream.
Our life style - buying a house is looking for a good deal.
I told my wife if she really want to buy a house in SD, We can spend the
money we made in AZ housing market to buy a house in SD. |

made a good or bad trade with their fellow animal. Animal just wants to live
, everything else is not important.
Your issue is rather you took yourself too seriously. You want not to make
mistakes without realizing mistakes are part of live. And you are
suffocating your own kids with rules to avoid mistakes. You may be smart but
it may be luck as well, but your success made you attribute it all to your
thinking without acknowledging randomness, and you are afraid that mistakes
will tell you otherwise.

Unlike typical Chinese family ,We let our kids to make decision for them-
self. I just provide inputs and suggestions when their make decisions.
My kids went to bed later recently(after 12:00am), and got up later(after 10
:00am). I suggested them should go to bed before11:00Pm, get up before 9:
00am.
I was surprised my wife 反对 my suggestions.
my kids 不反对 (is not 支持)my suggestions.
my daughter wants to be a 时装设计师 whe she was 13~15. I said -- great!,
and there are a lot of market places on the internet, put your 时装 on
internet market places(e.g amzon, ebay, ...) to get the feelback from the
market.After 1~2 years, She know to be an engineer is easier and better for
her,
she is major in engineering now.I suggested she to get an engineering degree
+ MBA, 时装设计师 as hobby.
