I've given it another thought regarding the referrals on SD board. here are
my proposals,
option 1, provide a direct link to the deal, referral link is not allowed,
mention that you can refer, so interested party can contact you offline.
this way it becomes a private matter between the referrer and referee, and
you two should work things out in private. none of other people's business.
option 2, provide both the direct and referral link, spell out whether you,
as a referrer, are willing to share the benefit or not. If you do, give a
practical way to compensate the referee for using your referral - paypal,
amazon payment, BofA transfer, Chase quickpay, amazon e-gift card, cash in
person, a buffet treat, etc.
just some random thoughts for BM and all of you to consider.
In my opinion, it is better to have the rules in place than bend the rules
as we go.

type. He specifically mentioned "the four of us will evenly share the total
cost". This kind of activities are allowed, right? At least I saw a couple
of times ladies buy cosmetics in that way.
I agree with you that a rule is a rule and we should not bend it easily.
However, life is not just black and white. Sometimes you do need to know how
to deal with bordorline cases.
Have to say BattleMage is quite good in this regard.

between the two is clear. if you must, it is more like a group buy organizer
receives a kick-back and decides to share it with other group members.
exceptions or borderline issues should be extraordinary. when they become
the norms, you know it is time to change the rules. we do need an open-
minded BM to make judgement calls once in a while, but well-thought-out
rules can deal with the majority of the violations. To be honest, I trust a
system rather than an individual no matter how good he/she is.
BTW, I actually think it is not a good idea to organize a group buy mainly
on SD board. a more efficient way would work like this, make an announcement
on the board, recruit the participants who are interested, then share the
info and updates via a private mailing list.
I've PMed BattleMage the link of this thread to bring his attention to the
referrals on the board. I surely hope he can comment on this problem.
