cell phone. I basically finished Cormac Mcarthy's The Road riding taxi
in Beijing.
btw a film based on the novel is to be released in October 2009. Should
be an interesting thing to see.

They are like recreations of the original work. Role playing and performing
amidst faith recital of the text. Purist might sniff as this stole some
space for imagination, but I like it. I still remember the voice of Raul
Duke in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Couldn't have done it better with my
(challenged) imagination.
Some of them audio books are read by the author, which I think is overrated.
We all know writers can't perform.

Totally agree on this, tried to listen to some readings by e.e.cummings, T.S
.Eliot and Pablo Neruda, on each case the style of the speech was too slow
and weird for me, a random amateur from youtube could give their work some
fresh breath of life...
But on the other hand, I've listened to countless amateur poetry slams, and
thought reading really made poetry 1000 times better...
