ITIN. I brought the completed W-7 forms and my parents' passports with me.
To my surprise, the IRS lady told me that I could not just submit W-7 by
itself. She said I had to submit the W-7 with the corresponding tax return
form (1040). So she asked me to come back next spring when it's time to do
the tax filing. (I am going to claim my parents as my dependents for the
2010 tax year.) The W-7 instruction does mention that W-7 form needs to be
accompanied by the tax return form. But I remember 2 years ago when I
applied for my mother-in-law's ITIN, I did not attach the 1040 to the W-7
and I did receive my mother-in-law's ITIN a few weeks later. |

发帖数: 296 | 6 ITIN is 税号. You need to have this number for your parents if you want to claim them as your dependents in your tax return and thus save your tax payment. |

All the cases I heard before are all submitting W7 with the tax returns.
I have no idea how you got the ITIN from your mother-in-law...

present. The passports do not need to be notarized in this case.
I told him that some people did this without parents present, but he still
insisted on his way. |
