institution may want to some maintainance fee every year.
The big ones like Vanguard and Fidelity, definitely do not charge anything
if you move your 401k to IRAs.
Some companies even allow you to keep your 401k money with them even you are
not employed by them. I still have
some 401k money in one of my previous companies.
