Asian Americans
The Democratic Party also has considerable support in the growing Asian
American population. Historically, most Asian Americans have tended to hold
more pro-business views than other minority groups. Partly for this reason,
the Asian American population was a stronghold of the Republican Party
through the 1992 presidential election in which George H. W. Bush won 55% of
the Asian American vote, compared to Bill Clinton's 31%, and Ross Perot's
15%. The strong Republican support in the past has been due to the votes of
anti-communist Vietnamese Americans, Taiwanese Americans, and Chinese
Americans, and conservative Korean Americans, Indian Americans, Filipino
Americans, and Pakistani Americans. The Democrats made gains among the Asian
American population starting with 1996 and in 2006, won 62% of the Asian
American vote. This may be due to demographic shifts in the Asian American
community, with growing numbers of Chinese and Indian immigrants that are
typically fiscal centrists but lean leftward on social policy, and newer
generations of more liberal Vietnamese American and Filipino American youth
have also began to replace older more conservative generations that have
voted reliably Republican. Vietnamese Americans still vote mostly Republican
, while Chinese Americans, Japanese Americans, Indian Americans, people of
Southeast Asian descent other than Vietnamese, and Pacific Islander
Americans have voted mostly Democratic. Americans of Filipino, Korean, and
Pakistani descent have recently[when?] begun to lean Democratic. Younger
Asian-Americans of all ethnic backgrounds aged 18–30 have gravitated
towards the Democratic Party in the last few[which?] elections.

GOP: Marriage
The 2004 Republican platform expressed support for the Federal Marriage
Amendment to the United States Constitution to define marriage as
exclusively between one man and one woman. Generally speaking, most
Republicans have opposed government recognition of same-sex unions such as
with same-sex marriage. This opposition formed a key method of energizing
conservative voters, the Republican base, in the 2004 election. A New York
Times and CBS News collaborative poll released in April 2009 reported that
18% of Republicans favored recognition of same-sex marriage.[37] An August
2010 Fox poll found 19% support.[38] Historically, most Republicans have
opposed LGBT people serving openly in the military and supported the 'Don't
Ask, Don't Tell' policy. However, majorities of 52% and 58% among
Republicans in both 2004 and 2009 opposed the policy and supported open
enlistment, according to Gallup polling.[39]
Groups pushing for LGBT issues inside the party include Log Cabin
Republicans and GOProud. Fox News national exit polls of self-described LGBT
voters found that 24% voted Republican in 2004 and in 2006. That value was
19% and 31% in 2008 and 2010, respectively.[40]. In 2011, 28 % of
Republicans supported gay marriage [41].

GOP used to be a very wise party. It probably will again be one in the
future, but for now it is a disgrace and worse yet it offers little to the
national politics other than just no after another no. Its very own big
problem is that it is forgoing its historic practical mentality in favor of
partisan extremism which is a great sad thing.
