After a five-hour debate Saturday night, the Minnesota House voted 70 to 62
to place a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage on the
November 2012 ballot, allowing the people of the state to decide the fate of
marriage equality.
“That makes me fear for our state,” said Rep. Kate Knuth (pictured) after
the vote.
The West Central Tribune predicts that “Minnesotans are in for 18 months of
emotional and hard-fought campaigning. The campaign is expected to bring in
millions of dollars for both sides.”
Donald McFarland of Minnesotans United for All Families is ready for the
challenge. “Our campaign is hitting the ground running and we plan on using
every resource available to defeat this anti-family constitutional
amendment,” he said.
Reportedly, chants of “just vote no” came from outside the House chamber
as the votes were tallied. |
