| G*****3 发帖数: 71 | 4 Seriously, it is a lot easier than you would think. There are a lot of
trading arcade and facilitator in Chicago and London like Kyte group and
Schneider trading. They will handle everything from clearing/margin to HR/IT
for you. If you want to trading manually, an TT or RTS system cost less
than 1500 pound a month. And for systematic stuff, you probably want
something more up market like Quanthouse or ORC, which will be definitely
less than 5000 pound a month. If speed is a concern, majority of these guys
will provide co location at extra cost. In term of trading capital, if you
stick with very low risk model, I have seen people being self employed in
the business with 50000 pounds. However, with good diversification, it is
not impossible to make 1 million a year with less than 500k trading capital
in the account.
The key is to have good strategy and sustainable business plan for long term
growth.... | EM 发帖数: 715 | 5 good to know, should be marked!

business, you will know that it's definitely sth achievable. But why do you
want to do everything by yourself? There are a lot of seeding platform in
big hedge funds that will do this for you. In general, if you become a PM in
their platform for 2-3 years and have proven track record, they will help
you build your own fund, and they will help you secure investment, for at
least over 500M equity, so why bother doing everything yourself? Get your foot into the business first.

| j****j 发帖数: 270 | 7 Thanks a lot for the above-stairs invaluable info.
But I was talking about a different business model -
the prop-trading shop where you hire a bunch of traders ...
that type of shops that are not as glorious as hedge-funds... | G*****3 发帖数: 71 | 8 A few of reasons...
First one is freedom, As far as I know, majority hedge funds have mandate to
meet. You cant go trade whatever you like. Strategy has to stick to certain
asset classes and type (mean reverting and trend etc...)
Secondly, working for someone else always give them the chance to screw you
over. I have been in the situation for so many times. Sometime, even very
reputable employer can hurt you unintentionally. The only ways out is to
have the whole thing for yourself.
Finally, some people just like the challenge! It is always good to build
your own empire. hehe
How has trading been for you btw?

| G*****3 发帖数: 71 | 9 The things I have talked about is all about this kind of boutique prop firm.
However, if you want to hire traders to make money for you, you need to
focus on a lot of different things. You would probably need more capital for
back their trading, but the most difficult thing is to find good traders.
There are a lot of places, where they hire a lot of graduates and only pick
the top one in the group...Also as the director of the company, you should
focus more on infrastructure, as personally, I would leave, if the company
cant support me to do what I wanna do!

| z*********r 发帖数: 298 | 10 u r quite ambitious :-) I got pretty busy so I didn't go to quant board for
a long time. Last year was good, I think this year will also be a good time,
how was yours? did you figure out a way for the capacity of your strategy?
As for the discussion, it will definitely be better if you can open your own
fund without any support, but as for us foreigners first it's very hard to
secure investment, second as you said, it's hard to find good traders,
especially for quant shops because we don't communicated too much between
each other, prob because we communicate too much with the computers:-), so I
don't know, seeding out from a majoy HF seems to be good choice for me,
take World Quant for example, we had some discussion about it last year, it
was seeded out from MLP, but it works just fine as many other independent
quant shops.
But this is an interesting topic, and it definitely worth a detailed discuss
.
BTW, how is market in London, r u still in there?
