The Engineering-Meets-Medicine Laboratory (EMML) at Stony Brook University
(SBU) invites applications for two NIH supported Postdoctoral Scholar (
Postdoc) or Research Assistant Professor (RAP) positions in the area of
Biomaterials, Medical Implants, Tissue Engineering, or Neuroscience.
About EMML: The lab is interested in interdisciplinary and translational
research that leverages the engineering advances in biomaterials,
nanotechnology, medical implants, and neuroscience for innovative and better
clinical solutions to emerging problems in regenerative medicine,
cardiovascular disease, orthopedics, aging and dementia. State-of-art
facilities are available across the campus with a very collaborative
environment at SBU.
About Stony Brook University: Widely regarded as a SUNY flagship, SBU is
going beyond the expectations of what today’s public universities can
accomplish. Since its founding in 1957, this young university has grown to
become one of only four University Center campuses in the State University
of New York (SUNY) system with more than 25,700 students and 2,500 faculty
members, and 18 NCAA Division I athletic programs. Our faculty have earned
numerous prestigious awards, including the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize,
Indianapolis Prize for animal conservation, Abel Prize and the inaugural
Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics. U.S. News & World Report ranks Stony
Brook among the top 50 public universities in the nation. Its membership in
the Association of American Universities (AAU) places Stony Brook among the
top 60 research institutions in USA. As part of the management team of
Brookhaven National Laboratory, the University joins a prestigious group of
universities that have a role in running federal R&D labs.
Minimal qualification: a Ph.D. or M.D. degree in bioengineering,
neuroscience or closely related fields. Strong background in one or more of
the following research fields: biomaterials, medical implants, tissue
engineering, animal models, aging, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.
Preferred qualification: expertise in one or more of these: 1) biodegradable
, smart, or nano-biomaterials for orthopedic and/or vascular tissue
engineering applications; 2) biomaterial implantation and analysis in
various animal models; 3) aging and dementia related to Alzheimer’s. In
addition, demonstrated ingenuity, productivity, and independence as well as
excellent communication and writing skills are desirable.
Application Procedure: These positions will start as early as October 1,
