, well-funded laboratory (These positions are supported by NIH common funds)
. The positions are advertised for studying HIV gene therapy/gene editing
and vaccine development (developing universal vaccines against HIV and
influenza).
For HIV gene therapy/gene editing positions, I hope you have the following
background and expertise/experiences:
1) Obtained a PhD degree in the fields of Virology, molecular biology, or
immunology; or have four years of postdoc experience in working on these
fields;
2) Extensive CRISPR-Cas9 or other gene editing expertise is required;
CRISPR-Cas9 library screening experience is preferred but not required;
3) Extensive lentivirus generation expertise is required;
4) Extensive molecular cloning expertise and cell culture techniques are
required; and protein expression/purification (in mammalian expression
system) is preferred but not required;
5) Extensively using flow cytometry is required;
6) Animal model experience, tail-vein injection and retro-orbital
bleeding techniques are required, and experience working on generating
humanized mouse models is preferred but not required;
7) AAV and adenovirus vector experience is preferred but not required;
8) Nanoparticle formulation experience is preferred but not required.
9) Working on any kind of virus is required, but working on HIV is
preferred.
For HIV/influenza vaccine development position, I hope you have the
following background and expertise/experiences:
1) Obtained a PhD degree in the fields of Virology, molecular biology, or
immunology; or have four years of postdoc experience in working on these
fields;
2) Experience on viral vaccine is required, but working on viral vector-
based vaccine is preferred;
3) Extensive molecular cloning expertise and cell culture techniques are
required;
4) Experience in various immunoassays to characterize T cell and B cell
response is required;
5) Extensively using flow cytometry is required;
6) Animal model experience, tail-vein injection and retro-orbital
bleeding techniques are required, and experience working on generating
humanized mouse models is preferred but not required;
7) Library construction experience is preferred but not required.
The salary will be based on NIH guideline and commensurate with individual
experience. The benefit will include full-coverage health insurance for the
family, and participating in the Texas Teacher Retirement (TRS) plan (we
will contribute the employer portion).
