发帖数: 148 | 1 We are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to work at UC San Diego on the
fundamental research of interfaces (grain boundaries and, to a less extent,
free surfaces and phase boundaries) in metals and ceramics, and their roles
in controlling fabrication processing and mechanical and functional (e.g.,
ionic) properties, with a focus on structural materials (including both
metals and ceramics). Interested candidates may look at two recent review
articles [J. Am. Ceram. Soc. 95: 2358 (2012); Acta Mater. 62: 1 (2014)] to
understand the general research area and the long-range scientific goals.
The postdoctoral fellow may also participate in other on-going research
projects at UC San Diego.
The ideal candidates should have solid knowledge of classical materials
science (physical metallurgy and/or ceramics), be self-motivated, and have a
strong interest in doing fundamental research. The planned research work
includes materials processing, characterization and interfacial
thermodynamic modeling. Exceptional candidates who specialize in computation
and modeling, particularly those with strong experience of modeling
interfaces in metals and ceramics, may also be considered favorably. US
citizens are preferred (because the program is supported by a DoD fellowship
, with a goal of developing future scientific workforce for DoD), but not
required. Candidates who are interested in developing a career in
fundamental research are encouraged to apply.
