The Electronic and Electrochemical Materials and Devices Laboratory (EEMDL)
of the Lugar Center for Renewable Energy, Purdue University and Indiana
University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) invites applications
for a post doctoral researcher position starting on March, 2012. The
successful applicants will participate in a multidisciplinary graphene based
materials research program sponsored by the Department of Energy in
collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory focusing on the novel nano-structured anode/cathode
materials for Li ion battery, spuercapacor and fuel cell development.
Qualifications:
1. PhD degree on chemical engineering, materials engineering, chemistry
or related area.
2. Solid background on carbon based materials including but not limited
carbon blacks, graphite and graphenes.
3. Experience on graphene synthesis and carbon materials processing are
must.
4. Experience on vanadium oxide synthesis through sol-gel process is a
plus.
5. Strong materials and electrochemical characterization techniques (TEM,
SEM, XRD, XPS, XAS, BET, Hg porosimetry, CV, AC impedance)
6. Experience on electrode materials synthesis for both anode and cathode
for Li ion battery and super-capacitor is a plus.
7. Good training on electrochemistry and/or electroanalytical chemistry
is a plus.
8. Experience on battery cell and super-capacitor assembly (i.e. coin
cell, pouch cell) and battery performance characterization is a plus.
9. Good communication skills
10. Good writing skills on publications
Responsibilities include: 1) Develop/synthesize and characterize graphene
and graphene vanandinum based composites. 2) Evaluate the performance of
these materials in battery cell and super-capacitor configuration. 3)
Analyze experimental data. 4) Develop other novel (nano) electrode and
electrolyte materials with tailored properties. 5) Disseminate the outcomes
of the project through publications/presentations.6) Write project reports
and research proposals, and carry out other assigned duties.
The Electronic and Electrochemical Materials and Devices Laboratory (EEMDL)
is a part of the Lugar Center for Renewable Energy, and specializes in
development of novel technology and nano-structured materials for energy
applications including but not limited fuel cells, Li-ion and Li batteries,
super-capacitors and hydrogen storage. The interdisciplinary nature of the
EEMDL includes expertise in nano materials, electrochemistry, nano and micro
fabrication, gas physical adsorption, neutron/X-ray scattering imaging,
chemical kinetics, thermal-fluid transport, and reacting flows. The EEMDL
conducts fundamental and applied research programs on Li-ion batteries, fuel
cells and hydrogen storage for automotive applications (EV and HEV),
biomedical materials and devices, and is currently funded through various
sources, including: automotive companies, academia and government agencies.
