A post-doc position is available in the CIOS Lab (Data Mining and Biomedical
Informatics http://www.egr.vcu.edu/cs/dmb/index.html ) at the Computer Science Department, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA.
The person will work on an ongoing NIH project entitled "Systems Biology for
Studies of Cognition in Down Syndrome" (1R01HD05235-01A1). The goal is to
use systems approach to discover key pathway components and predict results
of novel perturbations in Down syndrome disease. The results of this study
will play a key role in identification of effective targets for development
of potential therapeutics for Down syndrome patients. The funding is
available initially for two years, at the level of $42K/year.
The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D
. in bioinformatics/computational biology/computer science, with experience
in analysis of protein interaction data, genomics data, signaling pathways.
Required are good programming skills in languages such as Perl, Java,
Javascript, MySql, knowledge of computational modeling, including fuzzy
cognitive maps, machine learning, neural networks, statistics, visualization
techniques for displaying pathways, and good understanding of molecular
biology.
