这次主要是因为号称超过了nucleosynthesis bound，所以才有一点实际意义。
不过这个结果是多年前就计划好了的。
这些所谓的string模型，根据本人观察，其实是一些string-theory-"motivated"
toy models，跟first principle相距太远，而且又有好些不定参数。所以就算排除了，
意义也不大。
这个stochastic background，用LIGO来搞detection基本没啥希望。

没有以外的发现，
但还是通过对数据的分析得到的，
所以文章还是得发吧？

for the general public's benefit:
this kind of 'string', ie. cosmic string, as a model for the formation of (
galactic) structures, has been ruled out and out and out many many times.
跟superstring没有直接关系。它是GUT模型里产生的magnetic monopole的推广。
some really naive (open) string inflation model (with tachyons) from 10
years ago, may produce such things.

I agree it's 不太靠谱的东西, string theory models should be treated like
harmonic oscillators in some cases.

八九年过去了，还是没有达到设计的resolution。现在又在追加 funding， 搞
advanced LIGO。最终的结果可能就是 laser 和 vacuum 技术上的一些进步。 |
