if you are shooting running kids or birds for fun, this isn't the one,
unless you get paid. This is comparable to Canon 7D or Nikon D300S

It's not as good as the Nikon D7000 + 18-105mm VR.
You can always use a 10% off coupon at Bestbuy. And if you don't need to pay
tax, you'll get that combo for $1349.

None major brand? LOL. Pentax is the grandfather of Japanese photo industry.
This is one of the best APS-C camera currently on the market. (the best if
IQ is the only evaluation factor) Someone need to check dpreview's review.

Be cautious that the 'waterproof' here only means more tolerant to
spattering water and high moisture than ordinary DLSRs. Never try to shoot
underwater with it...

This is indeed a great solid camera with one of the highest review in
dpreview. It's not a "deal" though considering it a few hundred bucks higher
than the cheaper Nikon D7000 (with similar spec). When this drops to sub-1k
, it will be a bargain again.
