Scientist - Process Engineering Job Description:
The Scientist will involve conducting monoclonal antibody purification
process development to support the development, optimization and
manufacturing of biologics covering different therapeutic areas. Scope of
work may include, but are not limited to, protein purification, purification
process development, novel purification technologies, data analysis and
project reporting. The candidate is expected to have excellent time
management skills, with the ability to adapt to rapid changes in projects
priorities and meeting aggressive timelines. The candidate should enjoy
working in a team setting and be able to work well with both internal
scientists as well as external collaborators.
Responsibilities include:
- Execute routine protein purification with affinity, ion exchange
chromatography as well as membrane chromatography using AKTA FPLC systems (
Unicorn software).
- Develop novel purification processes as well as using standard methods to
purify proteins from the mg to gram scale.
- Perform, develop and optimize robust, efficient, scalable strategies for
improving process performance.
- Utilizing monoclonal antibody purification process platform and applying
the high through-put technology to the downstream purification process
development as well as out-of-the-box thinking to deliver technology
improvements.
- Apply DOE methods to purification process development work and use
biostatistics tool, such as JMP to evaluate the process performance and
analyze the process capability.
- Independently work with minimal supervision, analyze and interpret data,
and present/document the results as needed.
- Write/revise technical reports.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Solid and proven theoretical basis and hands-on experience in protein
purification via affinity, ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction and
membrane chromatography and process development with emphasis on affinity
chromatography purification.
- Hands-on experience with purification unit operations including filtration
, chromatography, TFF, UF/DF, AKTA, Unicorn system.
- Understanding of and experience with chromatographic resin screening,
dynamic binding capacity, process optimization.
- Knowledge and skills in other protein purification technologies, such as,
protein flocculation, depth filtration, centrifugation and tangential flow
filtration.
- Working knowledge of DOE and JMP analysis.
- Self-motivated and organized, familiar with the relevant literature, and
enjoy scientific investigation and thinking.
- Effective communicator of ideas, project goals and results to team members
across functional roles/departments.
- Demonstrate the ability to proactively identify issues and develop
solutions in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
- Remarkable aseptic techniques, comply with safety rules, and have
awareness of company’s quality standards.
- Understanding of the drug discovery process and the application of QbD
principles are desirable, but not necessary.
