THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.—Amgen Inc. will lay off more than a thousand workers
in California and Rhode Island as part of a broader effort by the
biotechnology company to trim staff and reduce costs, the company said.
Amgen will lay off 675 of the roughly 8,300 workers at its Thousand Oaks
headquarters, while it cuts 450 of the 1,600 positions at its West Greenwich
