Hello, sorry that I can't type Chinese in the office.
I would like to invite every one to talk about kids' education.
If there is a chinese immersion school, would you send your kids there for
education?
The structure of the class is like half Mandarin speaker, half non-mandarin
speaker, so that kids can co-mingle and learn faster.
This is the school I am talking about: I live in east bay in CA. This school
is newly set up.

Thank you for your suggestions and thoughts

这个网页就只介绍校长,吹得乌丢乌丢。老师的情况呢?没有。
总不可能整个学校就这一个老师吧?

it is a new school, they are still recruiting. lots of parents volunteer
their time and energy to lobby for the school established.
I still don't know when the teachers will be recruited, but the calendar set
for the school to open in August 26, 2011

Unless you are the adventurous type, I would suggest that you not rush your
decision and observe how the school performs in the next few years. There
are many immersion schools in the bay area, such as:
Chinese American International School
International School of the Peninsula
French American International School
I would go to greatschools website, search for these schools and see what people say about the immersion model. If you like what you hear, go to an open house and a school tour if they offer one. New schools are tricky. I know a few new schools, non-conventional, that turned out well, but the first few years were tough for them. One of them even started in a house.
If you don't like what you hear, you are still equipped with plenty of
options. Schools like Head-Royce, Bentley and Windrush are all top-notch. If you wonder what these schools are like, or some of the other schools in the area, you can check out the posts from the Berkeley Parent Network, which is one of the best local parent forums I have ever been to.
Good luck.

Hello, it seems that you know quite a bit about immersion programs and
schools.
My son is 5 years old this year and is going to k. so we have to make up our
mind now. My home is not zoned for a good school, so we are either thinking
about this immersion program school or have to buy a new house somewhere.
Can you let me know the names of the schools that turn out well but have a
hard time in the first few years? especially the school that has to start in
a house?
I just wonder as a Chinese speaker, is it necessary for my son to go to
immersion program where half of the other kids don't speak english at all...
I felt that he would be bored when the teacher has to say something again
and again for the other kids to catch up, but I don't know for sure...

The relatively new schools I mentioned are in the Peninsula, not in east bay
. They are Synapse Institute and Helios School. Helios started in a house
in Palo Alto and now it is in a warehouse, I believe. Synapse is well known
for its social-emotional content. Helios, unstructured learning.
In east bay, there is one relatively new school(founded in 2005?), Baywood
Learning Center, that pushes the unstructured learning to the extreme.
To get some ideas how some of the schools in east bay are like, as I said,
please visit Berkeley Parent Network website. For example, for the Yuming
school, here is a review from BPN:
http://parents.berkeley.edu/recommend/schools/yuming.html
Hope this helps.
