Both have same PPI and same bad OS but Kindle has:
better quality (with metal frame)
2 antanna & MIMO faster internet connection (compared to N7 and S2)
2 speakers (not hifi level, but much louder and clearer sound)
glass screen (nook+ feels different)
Rootable and rom should be coming soon (see xda safestrape). | s***n

there is a post to tell how to root the kindle hd 7, do'nt know if it works
