信能否支持中文和网络有关，其实没有关系。为什么呢？
从原理上讲，最早的短信是利用7号信令当中闲置的MAP字段来发送信息，这样可以减少
网络流量，这个字段大小是140字节，也就是140*8=1120 bits，为了多支持字符，大家
都使用7位编码，这样就是1120/7=160个英文字符。
而中文支持最少需要2个字节，所以只能支持140/2=70个汉字。
但是很多时候，需要发送超出160个英文字符或者70个汉字，早期做法是把一个长的信
息分成多个短信，然后各个手机的短信客户端要么显示成多个独立短信，要么在收到多
个短信的时候自动合成一个大短信，总之从网络的角度，还是发送了或者接受了多个短
信。
当然现在的短信已经有了很多进步，比如可以支持多媒体短信，但是这些已经不是在信
令上发了，而是利用单独的数据传输了。
为了兼容，现在字符短信还是走信令，也就是说，你如果发字符短信，那么是不占用你
流量的，而你要是发多媒体短信，是要占用你的数据流量。
简而言之，字符短信能否支持中文，和网络无关，只和终端设备的编码有关。多媒体短
信就不光需要终端设备支持，网络本身也得支持。 |

发帖数: 1100 | 4 网络和终端都有关系，现在网关都有检测非正常字符功能，我以前用palm treo 680在
中国移动和att都可以收发中文短信，在tmobile就不可以，还反馈一个短信说检测到非
标准字符，让我检查设备。 如果一定要发中文短信的就最好用cdma手机，因为cdma短
信是一个短电话，其实是走网络的，对字符不敏感 |

unicode during transcoding when SM passes through various sub-systems. For
example, if SMSC (I wonder if they still use one nowadays) stores offline SM
in a DB table column which only supports ascii-7 string, the text will be

节，就能发送任意个字节。 |

那为啥sprint不支持中文啊。

I understand. I do apologize, however we do not currently offer a way to
translate text messages that come in another language on the phone. I
understand that the messages are not coming in as a normal message, however,
you are correct - we do not support the format of the messages. You can
check for an application that may offer this service, but we do not offer
this service at this time.

just to clarify, no matter what kind of phone I have, the sprint network
does not support the transmission of SMS that is in languages that use a
different alphabet like cyrillic?

came from AT&T who did support it, and know I will have to go back.

I do apologize, we do not currently offer the service and I am not sure when
we will begin. I do understand your frustrations, however, my only
recommendation is to search for an application that may help or to search
online for a solution.

This is probably NOT true. At least not necessarily. CDMA or GSM is just
radio technology for the access sub-system. Such protocols are only used in
RF side of a cellular network. The inter-office network should be at least
similiar to PSTN, if not just completely PSTN. I'm not familiar with CDMA
network but I don't see why CDMA would not use SMSC or SMS gateway. For
example, if a service provider says you can send message "ABC" to number "
123" to retrieve certain information, there must be a SMSC, through which
the number 123 can be routed to an external content provider. Also if a
service provider allows you to receive offline SM when you turn on your
phone, there is a SMSC temporarily storing all your offline messages.
