kind of preparation would I need? Thanks! | w********6 发帖数: 12977 | 2 don't jump into this too soon, you already have too much commitment.
14er will be much easier in the western states, but for 20k, you have to go
to Alaska, Tibet, South America, .... You also need lots of technical prep.
My advice is to start with 14er first. You got way too much impulses. | w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 3 hehe, of course I'm not going to do it in the next month. There are several 14ers I can reach right this
moment. castle peak would be easy enough. I really wanted to go this weekend, but after some thoughts I
figured that I have to save my knees for running right now.
The thing is I may go to India this winter, and if I can climb some big mountains along the way that'll be cool.
On the other hand, I suspect that winter isn't the best time to visit the Himalayas...

snow alps mountaineering experience with commercial "guided climbing tour"
for your own safety.

don't want to pay a load of money

it? I have hiked up snow
mountains before, on continental divide. It didn't seem to be a big deal to me. But I do need ice
experience. Right now I'm more
interested in achieving high elevation than just a pure mountain climbing,
hehe.

| w********6 发帖数: 12977 | 6 Fore Mt Everest, the permit to climb itself is $70k if I remember correct
In India, I don't know what mountains you can climb with "guided tour", but
it makes huge difference in one "snow mountain" and another.
I guess for those less well known and relatively easy to access mountain,
the cost won't be too high, but again, the risk may be unpredictable as it
is less traveled.
Anyway, my guess is this winter, you at least can get a good glimpse of some
great mountains off season.

| c*******r 发帖数: 13580 | 8 This is too big a question. It's much more complicated than "I want to run a

| | | w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 11 I'm certainly aware that mountaineering is a big deal, and there is a lot to
learn. Perhaps I should change my
question to, where should I start in order to gain the experience? There are
only 14ers in the US excluding
Alaska, clearly some are easy and some are hard. Any recommendations?

| c*******r 发帖数: 13580 | 12 I'm not sure about you, but to me, altitude is not really a big deal. On the
contrary, I like fun climbs in low areas. It's less suffer and more fun.
Also, there is no direct relation between altitude and technical difficulty.
So again, the question really boils down to what kind of mountaineering you
want to do, what your goal is, and how you want to go about it. If you
simply want to stand on a 6000 meter mountain top, go for Kili, which is
just a long and somehow strenuous hike, which is well
