Try street parking along the bus lines (i.e. Q33). Many spots on East
Elmhurst (between Northern Blvd and LGA) allow free street parking for almost a week. Just make sure you check the timing for street cleaning so you don't get a ticket.
Note: the residential neighborhood there is relatively safe, but should avoid the major/busy roads (i.e. Northern Blvd.) and major apartment complex.
