NYC is the most pet-friendly city I have ever been. My boy is around 10 lb.
I take him with me almost everywhere, train, subway, boat, golf court,
shopping mall, etc. Only places where serve or sale food don't allow animals
. Most dogs are less susceptible to illness than people. However, you do
need to take them to a vet to get vaccine done yearly. Most importantly,
they need your attention. Good Luck!

choose and the place you go.
1. I take my boy to get distemper shot yearly and rabies every three years.
It is minimal. But it is enough for city dogs. Vets may recommend more. It
is up to you.
2. Generally speaking, animal hospitals cost more than small pet clinic.
Hospitals also charge you a flat “office fee” every time you visit no
matter what. I can’t speak for your area. You need to find local deals.
Yes, I take my dog when I commute. No extra fee for pet riding with you (not
flying :). Leash is a must. Pet carriers is recommended.
Another 2 cents, all dogs are different. Do some research and find the right
breed for you.
