i always told my girlfriends not to use GPS.
that's the only way to be able to get around correctly, and confidently.
i know a lot of us laugh at American kids using calculators to get results
from, for example, 57-9 .
are we 50 steps laughing at 100 steps? |

比方说，走错了路，你可以自己马上纠正到最快的路上；在一个新的地方，你要去另外
一个地方，你查看地图的时间能比用gps找要更快；
更别说gps还有traffic功能。

候GPS就很重要了.

、认路结合起来最好

不说别的，昨儿企图算个compound rate都比较困难，可惜手边没有个HP12C。。。

再往前，没有MapQuest 的时候车里还得放一份当地的地图，出门旅游第一件事就是去

GPS都能记住；不需要记的都是多少年才去一次甚至永远不会再去的地方，就算不用GPS
你记住了，有啥用？浪费脑细胞吧 |

It's not calculation per se. It's the many many trials to zone in the right
rate.
Intuition still helps. Calculator won't give you that.

I am old school. Wayyyyy old.
The confidence and subsequent safety that comes with reading map is 1000
gold cannot buy.
Totaly agree. Reading map takes time. I guess all I can say is I am gifted
in this. Usually 60 seconds is all it takes me. No matter how big the trip
is.
For others, the more you read and study map. The faster it gets for you.
Sooner or later. Maybe 20 years from now. you will have the skeleton of the
Northeast USA in your head.
From that point on. Every time before going to a new place. All you need to
read is the new place to connect into your framework.
30 to 60 seconds. Done.
And safe.
