When AT&T first started in New York City, their main labs were scattered
around the "Murray Hill" section of the city, a neighborhood to the
Northeast of the Empire State Building site.
As the company grew and made the business decision of moving to rural New
Jersey. folks felt such strong attachment to their former home. they CALLED
THEIR NEW PLACE in Jersey also "Murray Hill".
That's how we got Murray Hill in New Jersey.
As NY/NJ mit people cross post frequently, the way LZ posted, it's not even
clear which Murray Hill area is the subject of dicussion.
